My New Life Continued!!!

As you all know I am starting my personal chef business and adding baking as a new addition to the business. While thinking about all that I have to do while packing for my move, don't forget I am starting this business in a different state. I thought this would be a great way to assist those who may want to start a business but may not know how. Once a week I will submit an article on the things that are very important to get your business off the ground. Please remember I am not an attorney or a business advisor but, a person with a passion to own something of my own. So, please note my way of doing things may not be the best for you so, always consult an attorney first.

I will touch base on subjects such as:

  • Is a small business for you?
  • Following your passion
  • Choosing a form of business
  • Writing a business plan
  • Registering your business name
  • Tax ID # Do you need it or not?
  • Licenses and Permits
  • State and Local Taxes
  • Can I run this business from home?
  • Financing
  • Marketing
STAY TUNED!!!!!!

Observing Memorial Day

Since moving to MN, it's always been very hard for me to celebrate any type of holiday. Because, I come from a family where there are no seats available during a holiday celebration. You find a seat on the floor, the arm of the recliner in the living room or even someones lap if necessary and now that I have no one to celebrate these events with they just don't feel the same.

I have one friend who recently has figured out how to get me out of the house and enjoying holiday celebrations the way any person should. So, not only did I get to enjoy a great meal today and observe and remember those who lost their lives to protect our country but, I got to celebrate and recognize those living and I got remember what family is really about.

So I want to say thank Verylcia and Roosevelt for making it a great day! You two are great and the food wasn't bad at all!!! My favorite by far was the cheese brats, potato salad and the baked beans. I could have just eaten the potato salad. Oh! I am eating the banana pudding now!

A Fun Event!!!!

I had posted a video of me on StarTribune.com on an old blog of mine being interviewed about the "Royal Wedding" and thought it was so much fun that I would post again on City Sleek and Country Chic. I hope you enjoy!

National Biscuit Day!!!!!!

Ok!!!! Being a fellow southerner, I was very excited this morning when reading some posts on Twitter to find out that today is National Biscuit Day!!!!! Celebrate and go make some biscuits with a lot of cheese. I included the recipe that I love to use. I hope you enjoy it!

Cheddar Biscuits

1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
1 Tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. of salt
1 Tbsp. of sugar
1 cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/3 cup shortening
1/2 cup of milk

Mix first four ingredients ( flour, baking powder, salt and sugar ) until they are thoroughly mixed.

Add shredded cheese and shortening and mix by hand or in a food processor until mixture is crumbly. Gradually add milk and continue to mix until dough forms into a ball and is not on the sides of the bowl.

Lay ball of dough on a lightly floured surface and shape into a ball. Pat or roll dough into 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with a 2-inch round cutter and place in a lightly greased pan or baking sheet.

Bake biscuits at 425 degrees or until golden.

A Late Lunch with Ashton

Picked up Ashton a couple of hours ago and I took him to "The Red Dragon". It's a bar/restaurant in South Minneapolis. It's really known for a drink called the "Wonderous Punch" that will knock you off of your feet. But, I didn't go to drink. I wanted the Beef Chow Fun. It's the best! The decor is nothing to brag about and the tables have zodiac paper place mats and sometimes I wonder about the last time the seating was cleaned. By the way, I was born in the "Year of the Rat". Last but not least, I think they should be on Diner's, Drive In's and Dives just for the Beef Chow Fun!!!

Loving My New Life!!!!!!!!

So, I quit my job  on Wednesday and on Thursday spent 8am-2pm preparing 750 lunches in North Minneapolis to help support the volunteer workers that are cleaning up the area. Today, I awoke feeling like a new person advising myself that I am going to live today like it is the last day of my life.

I went to breakfast at the Avenue Eatery which is the coffee shop I used to manage until a couple of days ago and then after spent my day looking at all of my options to come to the conclusion that I have so many that it is hard to choose. I am so blessed. Let's focus on the dinner at hand that I prepared for a very good friend I have not seen in a while.

I decided top prepare a bacon wrapped filet mingot with red and yellow peppers, lobster with butter & garlic, pan fried corn and steamed rice. The best meal's in the world are the one where you get to dig and the refrigerator of someone else and hope for the best. Oh!!!! While digging I found a bottle of champagne....Who knows if it's good but you have get to paid the cook...... Right?  LOL...MMMmmm...Champagne is not bad..Let's see what my bud thinks about the food. Loving my new life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
